Bay to Breakers

I’m a runner, so I always thought a fun bachelorette party idea would be to gather my bridesmaids and run the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco—in costume. I doubt it’s a novel idea, but I still think it would be fun. And you’d end up feeling much better than you would after a night of boozing.

If you’ve ever participated in the famed 12K, which celebrates its 101st birthday this year, you know that a lot of people dress up, though a few choose not to dress at all. The vibe is festive, and the word on most runners’ and walkers’ minds is “party” not “PR” (“personal record”—also known as personal best time).

If I were to do this, I’d go to Goodwill or someplace similar and find a cheap wedding dress and some bridesmaids’ dresses (or some things that could be passed off as a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses). If I were really ambitious, I’d maybe even look for a veil. But I’d wear proper running shoes. Who wants to run/jog/walk the 7+ miles in heels?

Piqued your interest? There’s still time gather a posse, get your costumes, and run. This year’s event takes place Sunday, May 20. Sign up here. You might even win a prize.
