Have you been by the McKinley Park Rose Garden lately? The popular garden, created in 1928, underwent a facelift starting late last year. A new and improved garden opened to the public recently, and if you’re an outdoor enthusiast—not to mention rose lover (the garden is home to more than 1,000 rose bushes, tree roses and blooming annuals, according to its website)—you might want to consider it as a setting for your upcoming nuptials. I went to a wedding at the rose garden once years ago (at the “old” garden). It was pretty then; I’m sure it’s even better now.
The 1.5 acre rose garden is available for rent year-round. It can be booked for three-hour timeslots: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (during daylight saving time). You can reserve it up to a year in advance, but if you are looking for a place on the quick, contact the city of Sacramento reservations office at (916) 808-6060; you might be in luck. (Hint: mornings and early afternoons are the last to book up.) The fee to rent the garden is $140, plus a $100 deposit—a steal of a deal.
