Julie and Justin Hyde met on St. Patrick’s Day in 2006. Julie, 18 at the time, wasn’t particularly interested in a relationship and Justin, then 19, had recently joined the Coast Guard and was about to go to boot camp. And just when they weren’t looking for it, the luck of the Irish found them.
After dating for seven months, they knew they would get married, but Julie had no idea how Justin was going to pop the question.
A short time after he returned from boot camp, Justin revealed his plan at a sushi restaurant in midtown Sacramento. When the Nickelback song “Far Away” came on—a song Julie listened to every day Justin was away—he got up, pulled out the ring and got down on one knee.
The two were married on St. Patrick’s Day 2007, and had a St. Patrick’s Day-themed wedding and reception at Timber Creek Ballroom at Sun City Roseville.
Justin remembers his favorite part of the day—walking down the aisle as husband and wife. And Julie says one of her best moments was their first dance to Keith Urban’s “Making Memories of Us.”
“Our DJ was great,” Julie says. “He recorded Justin’s vows during the ceremony and played them when the music started.”
The Hydes now live in Lorton, Va., about 20 minutes outside Washington, D.C. After Justin serves his two years in the Honor Guard, they plan to return to Sacramento.
