How do you create a theme wedding between a movie lover and guy who adores fishing? Julie and Joe Berge of Sacramento pulled it off by holding their reception at the Crest Theatre and dubbing the event “Joe and Julie: The Perfect Catch.”
Like a movie opening, the name of the May 30 event was cast in big letters on the Crest Marquee that day and guests walked into the reception on a red carpet. The Berges, both 30, hung customized, glass-encased movie posters throughout the lobby that sported their pictures and some word play on their names and relationship. For instance, Julie’s maiden name is Ficker, so one poster featured a mock-up of the movie “Meet the Fockers,” dubbed “Meet the Fickers” instead. The couple also showed a movie explaining how they met and why they love each other.
To highlight Joe’s love of fishing, tiny fish bowls were scattered throughout the lobby, with goldfish swimming merrily inside them. The fish were a unique touch to tie in fishing, says Julie.
Even the appetizers captured the movie theme. With the help of SacTown caterers, guests were served gourmet corn dogs, little nacho bites and tiny shots of espresso with doughnut holes.
“It was kind of all of the stuff you find in the theatre, but with a gourmet twist,”
says Julie.
