Wow. We’re into the single-digits now! I took the day off work so that I could try to knock out a few items on my to-do list: phone calls to vendors, picking up bubbly, ordering beer. One of the biggies: sort of a trial run on how my hair will be for the wedding. This was something that was important to me and I wasn’t sure if I’d have time to fit it in.
I have friends who have had their hair done for special events and after sitting in the stylist’s chair for two hours—they absolutely hate the outcome. I don’t even wear hair spray normally—I certainly don’t want a style that looks like a can of shellac was used to paint it in place. I also don’t want to look like I’m going to prom.
Consider it a dress rehearsal for my hair. It’s not that I don’t trust the stylist—but if there is going to be an outcome that is less than favorable, let it happen at dress rehearsal.

Today’s New York Times has a story about big, bumpy hair, recently popularized by Snooki Polizzi, one of the breakout stars of the reality TV show “Jersey Shore.” According to the Times, Snooki-inspired bouffants were all over the fashion runways this season. Even Hillary Clinton has taken to wearing her hair with a big, poufy bump on the top of her head. If everyone’s sporting a Snooki, I’m guessing brides will, too. Better start buying your Bumpits, brides!

The Our Wedding offices have been buzzing the past couple of weeks with beauty shoots for the Fall/Winter 2010 edition. Three models courtesy of Cast Images were the pretty faces; makeup artist Shana Beals made them even prettier. The backdrop, consisting of floral bouquets, makeup and perfumes—accented by a collection of vintage purses, jewelry and books—made everything come together well . . . beautifully. (It’s hard to believe the setting was our conference room.) Our Wedding stylist Liz Marxen ran the show along with art director Carly Cornejo and photographer Jennifer Dunham Starr. The color themes—based on current trends in the wedding industry—were red, black and cream; red, navy and purple; and peach. Peach? For fall and winter? You can bet Marxen and company make it work. Can't wait for the issue to start hitting the stands in June!

I just learned of a new site/local resource I thought I'd pass along: Jesse Ciani, a site for wedding day accessories such as ring bearer pillows, photo albums, crystal napkin rings, bejeweled belts and sashes for brides, and a few other items. The photo quality on the website isn't great, so it's hard to tell about things like fabric quality and texture; whether these items are handmade or imported; that said, I think my favorite section is the belts and sashes -- many of which could also double as hair accessories. She's local, so I'm sure you can request custom items, as well. (Belt pictured: is called "Chic" and sells for $228.)

Heard of a website called The Fairest? If not, you can learn about it now. It's one of those new-fangled membership sites where you enter your e-mail address to become a "member" and get access to weekly deals. Deals that are hot, here, then gone. Right now, for instance, they have Skin Nutrition products at 50 percent off. Wowza. OK, I've never tried Skin Nutrition, so I can't vouch for the brand, but anything half off is still a good deal. Hurry! The sale ends in one day. Pictured at left: Skin Nutrition lip plumper for a mere $25.
