Honeymoon

Honeymoon with Parents?!? Honeymoon with Parents?!?

I overheard the most interesting piece of a conversation the other day. I was on hold with my mechanic, and I could hear him and his wife talking to a customer who'd just come in the shop. I was getting annoyed because both of them were chatting with this guy, and I was pretty sure one of them could be talking to me. I hear them ask the customer how he's been. "Oh, great," this man says. "My son just got married and we actually just got back from the honeymoon--we went with them."

Um. This is unacceptable. Whoever thought this was OK?! How did this happen? I would like to hear from anyone who's experienced something similar. Does everyone agree that this is nuts and counter-intuitive to what celebrating a new marriage is all about? ie: the couple!

Nightmare!

Hawaii Travel Pkg - Book by Sept. 5 Hawaii Travel Pkg - Book by Sept. 5

You know I love Travelzoo. Here's a deal I found flying out of Sacramento: Round-trip airfare and a three-night stay at a boutique hotel for just shy of $500 per person. This INCLUDES all taxes. This is a darned good deal, so jump on it! You have to book by Sept. 5 but can travel through Dec. 15.

Honeymoon Down Under! Honeymoon Down Under!

When this blog posts, I will be in Brisbane, Australia with my husband, on our way up to Townsville in the tropics tomorrow. My husband and I had more of a mini-moon rather than a proper honeymoon, and with flight prices as low as they are, we were able to take this trip, which could maybe be considered a second honeymoon. But why should I get all the fun? Check the Australian airline Qantas for deals. Tourism is low, so you should be able to find some enticing rates.

$220 to Fly to Europe $220 to Fly to Europe

United Airlines is having an "Explore Europe" sale, where you can buy a roundtrip ticket from San Francisco to Geneva, or LA to Zurich (plus a host of other deals) for less than $300. The thing about traveling in Europe is, once you're there, it's so cheap to fly or take the train somewhere else. You should explore this deal, courtesy of TravelZoo, my go-to discount travel resource. Seriously. These tickets are amazing. You must book your flight by Weds Aug. 29 to get this deal! Where's Zurich, anyway?

Honeymoon Destination: Italy’s Amalfi Coast Honeymoon Destination: Italy’s Amalfi Coast

Italy’s Amalfi Coast is a splendid honeymoon destination. You can fly into Naples and take a bus to the three main towns (Sorrento, Ravello and Positano) that make up this area. Bright purple, red and magenta bougainvilleas paint the landscape. The hills cascade down into the Gulf of Naples. (Stay in a room with a balcony that looks out to the ocean.) The beaches are warm, the people are friendly, and the food and wine are great—they’re Italian! The villages are charming. Some locals speak English, and some don’t. But one thing is certain: these small towns are made for relaxing, taking in the landscape, and romance. Costiera Amalfitana is also the home of limoncello, and you’ll see some of the biggest lemons you can imagine. Check out this website for a little research, and this one.
