This morning I began to write milk on the small whiteboard I keep on my fridge. What is normally a grocery list now contains wedding to-do’s. We need to meet with the DJ and give him our song selections. To be frank, we haven’t given much thought to music. My step father will play the piano and sing as I walk down the aisle. My sister will sing as Joe and I share our first dance as hubby and wifey. My dad and I will dance to a song called “I Loved Her First”—fitting. Other than that, we have given it zero thought.
 
We had all intentions of getting the marriage license about five weeks ago and even scheduled time off to make sure we got it done. The day before we planned to go apply for it, we had to leave town for a family emergency and were out of town for several days. Since then, it’s been one of those things we talk about, knowing we need to do it—just not knowing when we can.
 
Since we’re funding the wedding ourselves, we couldn’t plan the honeymoon until we knew all the other costs were covered. Joe and I have a date with the computer tonight. We’ll crack open a few beers and scour the Internet looking for a great deal. With any luck, we’ll also be able to erase “honeymoon” from the to-do list.
 
Joe may kill me for posting a picture of the whiteboard—complete with his drawings. He drew the ring even before he proposed to me. The bride and groom standing under a bell-adorned arbor was added later. We will, after all, be Mr. and Mrs. Bell.
