How “About a Bite”?

Some sweet treats were delivered to our offices earlier this week from a place called About a Bite Bakery: a box of Salted Caramel Bites to be exact. What are “bites”? Well, About a Bite’s version is a cross between a cookie and candy and covered in chocolate. (They were described as a “fancy Twix” by one staffer.)

And they are also delicious! You could say I was hooked after the first bite. In addition, About a Bite also sells Between 2 Cookies, which are two cookies with filling between them, sandwich style: shortbread with raspberry, peanut butter toffee with chocolate ganache, etc. We didn’t sample those, but they sound like gourmet Oreos, don’t they? About a Bite also makes various flavored bars—bite size, of course.

About a Bite does not have a storefront. Instead the goodies, baked in a Gold River kitchen, are shipped Fed Ex Next Day or Second Day air to ensure freshness. (Orders of $50 or more can also be delivered within the greater Sacramento area.) About a Bite offers dessert catering, which got me thinking: What a neat alternative to wedding cake! Or, how about handing them out as wedding favors?

Another thing I liked about them (and why I thought they might be good for a wedding): The treats have a decent shelf life. Stored at cool room temperature, the bites last two to three weeks, the bars seven to 10 days and the Between 2 Cookies four to five days.
