Weddings are a beautiful time to celebrate the union of two individuals and their lifelong commitment to each other. Local wedding professionals have dropped hints about trends coming your way for this upcoming wedding season.
The traditional four-tiered, white cake is beautiful and elegant, but is slowly becoming replaced. Lily Villaseñor, head of the wedding department at Freeport Bakery, says, “Dessert bars are a huge hit this year and I can see it growing more next year. We have a lot of couples that prefer to offer guests a variety of desserts instead of the traditional slice of cake.” Some of these include mini pies, cream puffs and tarts.

Capes and caplets are making a surprising appearance. Seen as an alternative to veils, they can be made in a variety of lengths.
The design-your-own gown is a new hot trend. Sandra Gonzalez, founder and creative director of Sparkle Bridal Couture explains to brides that you “pick your top, pick your skirt, pick your color, pick your fabric and create your dress!”
The simple black tux is always a good choice, however shades of blue and grey are rising in popularity, depending on the season. Ryan Douglas, designer and consultant at R. Douglas Custom Clothier says, “For custom suits and tuxedos, we have found that details such as buttons, monogramming, buttonhole accents and other trims bring excitement and personalization to the wedding day. Many brides have expressed to us that the details of the custom suit allowed their fiancé to be a part of (and enjoy) the planning process.”
Lara Kiniris from The Calligraphy Girl offers insight on wedding invitations, “We have many excellent invitation companies locally. I do hear a lot of brides who are on a budget are ordering online because it’s less expensive and it’s very easy to work with some of these companies.
