How they met: While working together on an extreme sports program while Kellie was an anchor in Denver, Colo.
Where they got engaged: After a couples’ massage— complete with a love blessing from the massage therapist—on the beach in St. Lucia.
Doggone cute: The couple’s basset hound, Annabelle, served as ring bearer. Kellie’s mom made her a collar that matched the bridesmaids dresses.
Dance class: The couple took lessons with Arthur Murray Dance Studio for nearly three months to prepare for their first dance. “It really did feel like a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ performance. Everybody loved it,” says Kellie.
Fitting favors: The couple handed out bottled water and electrolyte replacement powder—provided by Evan’s company, Vitalyte—to help combat the altitude and hangovers.
All together now: The couple liked the idea of having ceremony and reception in one location and they liked the options—swimming, hiking, golfing—provided to their guests for non-wedding activities. Their thought, says Evan, “If we’re going to have a mountain wedding, let’s create something where they can get away and enjoy the experience.”
With them in spirit: Framed pictures of the couple’s late grandparents on their wedding days were placed throughout the reception area. Kellie carried her late grandmother’s heirloom handkerchief as well as a broach from one of her bridesmaid’s late aunts—which meant a lot to the friend.
Thanks, Mom: Kellie’s mom, Deborah Jasper, handled most of the planning. “She was the glue that held it all together,” says Kellie.
This was no cakewalk: “We still joke about it, but no one gave us any instruction on how or where to cut the cake,” says Kellie. Despite being nervous about it tipping over, the couple still managed to cut a tiny wedge.
Priorities: “I don’t think I was the typical bride,” says Kellie. “The focus wasn’t really on the cake or the flowers or the chairs. The focus was just throwing a great party and celebrating our love.”
Tied up: Tying Evan’s bow tie stumped the groom, his future father-in-law, his groomsmen— even with the aid of a YouTube video. Who saved the day? A liquor rep visiting the resort’s restaurant.
