Nicole & Mike

Nicole and Mike

Engaged in Scotland, this couple brings a bit of the Highland touch to their nuptials.

PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR—Nicole, a photographer, and Mike participated in an organized tour of Scotland. While there, on a hike up to St. Anthony’s Chapel overlooking Edinburgh, they got engaged.

THEREFORE—For their wedding, Mike, his father and the groomsmen wore kilts, along with kilt pins with family crests (for boutonnieres). They included other Scottish wedding traditions, retrofitted to be more “them”—for example, a Bible with a cutout for a flask with malt whiskey (to represent the customary Bible and wheat). Nicole had a gray wedding dress custom-made and “grand enough to frolic through a castle,” she says.

GEOGRAPHIC DIVERSITYChurchill Manor in Napa for getting ready, Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga for a photo shoot, Whetstone Winery in Napa for the ceremony and Grand Island Mansion because it’s one of Nicole’s favorites . . . this group got around.

WHAT MIKE SAYS—Of friends and family: “It was astonishing how quickly new bonds were created.” Of the shoot at Castello: “The Old World décor truly drove home the theme.” Of marriage: “Our two souls became one.”
