The wine country fires couldn’t destroy the power of the ring for this couple.
POWER OF THE RING!—Nicole and Rob met in November 2015 on the job at St. Helena Hospital—she as a nurse, he as part of a team renovating the property. A year later, on a trip to Hawaii, he asked her father and four brothers for her hand in marriage, and eight months after that, on a trip to Fort Bragg, he popped the question on an ocean-side bluff. “It was one of the happiest, most euphoric days of my entire life; it’s hard to describe,” says Nicole. “Now I understand what ‘power of the ring’ really means!”
OUT OF THE ASHES—Nicole’s family home in Napa succumbed to fire last October, but several important relics were recovered: the family bell, which had been rung for dinner throughout four generations (and was rung at the wedding), the metal “R heart N” sign for the wedding’s guest message table, and Nicole’s grandmother’s engagement ring, an antique that Rob replicated in making Nicole’s ring.
SWEET DETAILS—Nieces and nephews carried the flowers and transported the rings; menus were personalized with guests’ names (and nicknames); Nicole’s family’s company’s dried prune racks held seating assignments.
